Welcome to Edinburgh People & Planet!

Edinburgh People & Planet is part of a national network of People & Planet groups throughout the UK. The Edinburgh group is one of the biggest and most active groups. We work on many issues, including Fairtrade & Trade Justice, Ethical Investment & Research, Peace & Justice, the Environment & Climate Change and Cooperatives. Our past achievements include bringing renewable energy to all union buildings, getting Fair Trade products into union outlets and getting the University to withdraw its shares from arms companies and invest ethically.

If you're a new student in Edinburgh or if you've simply browsed to this site out of interest then why not read about why you might want to get involved with People and Planet and then come along to one of our meetings, speak to us on our online discussion boards and mailing lists, read about some articles about our campaigns & actions, and subscribe to our weekly news updates (during semesters).

You'll get a good idea of what we get up to and how to get involved.

Enjoy :)

Come along to one of our meetings

All People & Planet meetings are open to everyone, not just members, and not just students. There is usually Fairtrade tea and coffee available.

We have some informal guidelines about how meetings work.

Monday Meetings

Monday meetings are our biggest meetings and are on Mondays from 7-9pm in the Chaplaincy in Potterrow during university semesters. At Monday meetings we discuss events and ideas and often have speakers coming to talk about local or global issues. Sometimes the meetings are related to a campaign we're running, sometimes not. Each Monday meeting is planned in advance by whoever attends Wednesday forums earlier in the year. After the meeting, we go to the pub.

To find out what we have planned for upcoming meetings, visit our Monday Meetings online discussion board.

Wednesday Forums

Wednesday forums are on Wednesdays from 3pm, also in the Chaplaincy during university semesters. These meetings are a place for activists from our campaigns to come together and talk to the rest of the group about what they've been doing, as well as for campaign-specific and general planning.

Subgroup Meetings

Subgroups working on particular projects within Edinburgh P&P often hold their own regular or irregular meetings as well. The best way to find out about these smaller meetings is to come along to one of the bigger Monday or Wednesday meetings and ask. You might also try asking on our online discussion board or on the planning list.

Weekly Emails

The P&P Edinburgh weekly email is a low-volume mailing list to which only a P&P moderator can post. We try to keep it to just one weekly digest with information on P&P and related activities and upcoming events.

To subscribe to the weekly email just send a blank email to edinb.peopleplanet-subscribe@lists.riseup.net
